It's 2am and still 25C degrees outside (77F). It was 36 degrees today (97F) and I forgot how much I hate the hot weather, especially at night.
The weather is really strange lately, a few days ago it was so cold that it actually snowed along a lot of the east coast. We had hail and now we're roasting. The warmer weather ushers in Christmas, the stores have been decorated since October and now the streets are too. With Christmas comes the strange Australian tradition of forgetting that we're in the southern hemisphere, firing up the oven and cooking a traditional 'winter' Christmas lunch. I too partake in this stupidity.
A basic Christmas Lunch menu in the Blue household:
Clear Vegetable soup with home made dumplings (Remember it's the middle of summer and we're eating hot soup)
Roast Walnut Wellington with Cranberry Sauce (I will be posting this recipe in the next few days, I rarely cook anything with an actual recipe so I'll make it on Friday to get the measurements right)
Roast Veggies
Garden Salad
Mlince (A Traditional Croatian Dish which is. . well. . .just soggy pastry. I love it.)
Apple Strudel
Snenokle (A dish of cold custard with floating "snow noodles")
Crepes
Well it's 2:30 now and still scorching, tomorrow is expected to reach 36 degrees again with thunderstorms. I love thunder on hot days and the cool change it usually brings. . .it always makes me think of the song by Gangajang, Sounds of then
"That certain texture, that certain beat,
Brings forth the night time heat.
Out on the patio we’d sit,
And the humidity we’d breathe,
We’d watch the lightning crack over cane fields
Laugh and think that this is Australia."
